<b>Plain cigarette packets in Ireland</b> <p>Ireland will become the first EU country to sell cigarettes in plain packs. The new law is expected to come into force next year.</p> <p>Dr James Reilly, the Irish government minister said the new law would help reduce the 5,200 smoking-related deaths in his country each year.</p> <p>The Irish government led the world by banning smoking in pubs and restaurants in 2004.
