Launch of Winston cigarettes from the very beginning, i.e. from 1950 was followed by motto: "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should". Creators of these cigarettes have invented a lot of good things. From corporative legend one of top-managers, resting in Switzerland have brought idea to produce in USA cigarettes with filter. The name of Winston cigarettes comes from place Winston-Salem in North Carolina.
At the beginning of 1950 Edward Darr one of the bosses of American Corporation R. J. Reynolds, coming back from the journey to Switzerland has surprised his colleagues with the story about unprecedented popularity of filtered cigarettes there. Colleagues decided that for USA, where people were not aware about such cigarettes they could become a godsend and for beginning they have sound the market. Research has showed that such cigarettes can have demand among Americans - it is necessary just to calculate their strength in order the filter wouldn't arouse at smoker the sense of tobacco weakness. More than 250types of tobacco were tested that were specially developed for cigarettes with filter - from them was Winston chosen that till present are manufactured on bases of 100% natural tobacco mixture.
In April 2008 JTI has presented the novelty - cigarettes Winston Premier, their special feature is filter with longitudinal ribbed surface.
Let's come back to history. When manufacturers made the slogan: "What do you want, good grammar or good taste?" Winston cigarettes went to the top line of popularity. For the first nine months of advertising campaign were sold 6.5 billions cartons of Winston and in 1956 it became the best cigarette brand with sales of 31 billions. At he same time scandalous slogan was put on music and started to play on radio and then on TV. Animated promo appeared with dancing violin clef. Ten years later Winston became the most sold cigarettes in USA. And from 1967 with elongated version of Winston cigarettes (100 mm) appearance it earned even more admirers.
