Virginia Slims is a brand of cigarettes from Phillip Morris companies (now Altria Group).
The brand was introduced in 1968 as cigarettes for young business ladies. The legendary slogan said "You've Come A Long Way, Baby".
Later there were two other slogans in the 1990s, "It's a woman thing," and "Find your voice." A report by the Surgeon General of the US has interpreted these marketing campaigns as attempt to link smoking "to women's freedom, emancipation, and empowerment." This report also tied the increase of smoking among young girls to rises in sales of Virginia Slims.
Virginia Slims cigarette is narrower (22 mm) and 1.5 cm longer than ordinary cigarette. The advertisement said that it was not only about "elegance", but also due to such design the amount of smoke from cigarette was reduced.
