Tobacco can cause hallucinations
Tobacco in its pure form without any processing can have various properties. Before getting to Europeans to turn into bad habit, tobacco was used by Native Americans as a drug.
There are chemicals in the tobacco plant called harmala alkaloids, harman and norharman, which are hallucinogens. These substances can provoke intense hallucinations. During tobacco processing, the harmala alkaloids are usually removed, that's the reason why cigarette smokers doesn't have any hallucinations.
In ancient times shamans used tobacco to gain wisdom and increase spiritual development. There is still a special tobacco in South America that has been carefully cultivated for hundreds of years. Such tobacco may be very dangerous for unprepared person and may have very unexpected effect.
