Bloomberg's Plan to Hide Cigarettes
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg proposed a new health law calling for stores to keep cigarettes away from buyers.
Bloomberg said that the time to prohibit retailers displaying tobacco products has come. To buy cigarettes people would have to ask beforehand. "These laws would protect New Yorkers, especially young and impressionable New Yorkers," Bloomberg said at a Queens hospital. He says the goal is to reduce the number of young smokers.
Christine Quinn, City Council Speaker said she "supports the goal of these bills" but noted they would get a full review in the office.
It should be mentioned that if the law comes into force, such initiative would become the first of its kind in the nation.
